My Organic Grocery List
This is the list of the produce that I bought while grocery shopping this week:
So simple, so basic, so healthy. I absolutely love eating this way, nourishing my family with this wonderful food, and I simply cringe thinking about the food that I used to put in my body. You see, I used to eat like the average American today-fast food on my way to work, pizza on the way home, a bag of chips while watching tv at night. I was heading down a slippery slope of weight gain and poor health. Then one day, everything just ‘clicked’ for me. I simply just ‘got it.’ I saw how sick the food that we, as Americans, eat on a daily basis are making us. I did a complete lifestyle, nutrition overhaul. This ‘a-ha’ moment may look and feel different for everyone. For me it happened seven years ago and is still evolving as I learn more and more about food and nutrition every day. It is so amazing just how incredibly simple it is to eat well and feel good. True, a lot of factors come into play to obtain true health and wellness. We need good, healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, exercise, and good sleeping habits. Yet, eating nutritious food remains right up there at the top of the list to get us on the right path to wellness.
We live in a society where we eat the wrong foods (fried foods, fast foods, processed foods) and take a pill to get rid of the persistent heartburn. We face chronic indigestion, acid reflux, and IBS. These issues are so tragically common, yet did we ever stop to think about why? Instead of treating these symptoms, which are so uncomfortable to live with, why not nourish your body with the right foods?
We know that fresh fruits and vegetables are good for us. Yet, how many of us actually get enough? Eating fruits and vegetables in abundance is so key! Go out there and fill your fridge with an abundance of organic fruits and vegetables from your local farmers markets and grocery stores! Sauté some kale into your morning eggs. Use spinach as the base of your salad for lunch. Make your evening veggie the centerpiece of the meal, rather than a small side which gets pushed around the plate. Juice some cucumbers, celery, apples, carrots, and parsley. Use my shopping list as an inspiration for your weekly shopping. Shop the perimeter of the store. This is where you find all of the fresh foods! The inside aisles often contain all of the processed, packaged foods.
Eat simply. Provide your body with the fuel it longs for – an abundance of fresh produce everyday. The fast, convenience foods are doing much harm to our bodies. Value your life and strive for longevity! Small steps can add years to your life. Take full control of your own personal health and live well.
