The Color Run!!
Our fitness expert Dana Connelly recently attended the Color Run in Philadelphia and is now prepping her team for the next run which will be held in New Jersey. Dana was so pumped up about her experience that she was extremely involved in getting the run to come to her home state of NJ! It is an awesome event for all people no matter what fitness level you are on!
Here is her awesome experience from The Color Run:
Have you been a part of the “happiest 5k on the planet” yet? If you have, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, what in the heck are you waiting for?
The Color Run is for every shape, size, sex, color, ability, and personality. Whether you are an avid runner or just running to the phone, you can’t help but have an awesome time during this creative and endorphin-boosting event. The Color Run travels throughout many states and gets involved with local charities, often selling out long before its actual start date.
A sea of white tanks and tees with arms raised and fingers wiggling is all I am able to see as I approach the starting line. The energy is intense and the morale is off the charts. As the countdown roars on, the crowd begins to muster forward, not yet able to run due to the capacity of the masses. (On average, there are 2,000 people running every ten minutes.) As we weave in and out of runners, joggers, walkers, and babies in strollers, we see a wall of yellow and the energy intensifies as we are about to experience our first “coloring” and simultaneously celebrate our first completed mile. Nobody rushes through the mile marker, as they want to declare their first victory and collect their yellow. This continues each mile. At mile two, there are more fantastic volunteers dousing the runners with color, and the air is filled with corn starch, cheers, and laughter. Mile three, the last of the race, is by far the thickest and most active of the mile markers. Color is being tossed from all sides, two different colors, people rolling on the ground to try to cover any colorless inch. The smiles, laughter, cheers, and high-fives are endless….
We cross the finish line and individual packets of color (that were handed out with your registration) are opened and shaken over anyone within reach. Hair, nails, clothes, shoes…nothing is left unscathed. And that’s just the way we want it. Every finisher earned their tie dye, regardless of the time it took. The Color Run is about being able to “complete” rather than “compete,” because when you stand at the start and look around, the differences are small. White shirts. Smiling faces. Enthusiastic hollering. And all heading in the same direction. In the end, everyone has a different pattern or placement, but the similarities remain: colorful shirts, smiling faces, enthusiastic hollering, and all headed in the same direction: The Color Run Festival. Where the color flows as freely as the laughter of the crowd…
